Can’t see it?  Here’s what i said…

The weather is doing my head, wardrobe and my wallet in. When I rise for work every morning it’s usually cold, so I wrap myself in a plethora of knits.  Yet by lunchtime I’m like a stressed sheep; clammy and woolly.  On the other hand, if it’s fair out side I may wear some skinnys and a top.  Maybe even a tea dress and a blazer.  Needless to say I inevitably end up freezing and therefore grumpy.  To be honest I’m over it, the present climate is like dating a flaky boy.  I’m confused, don’t know where I stand, and just wish the weather would commit!

Turning a negative into a positive, it’s a great excuse (like we need one girls) to buy…..lovely scarves (Cue a trip to The Dressing Room in St Albans, Anna in Harpenden, or even Accessorize in Welwyn); cosy cardis and light knits (M&S have some great and reasonably prices staple ones); and that can’t be without Autumn essential leather jacket (after all, every girl does need a fabulous leather jacket)…..erm , i might have, erm, accidentally, erm, bought-the jacket-of-my-dreams from Whistles this month.  Shhhhh.

Whistles Leather Jacket – £295 from John Lewis

Autumn is also an exciting time for footwear with so many great options to choose from.  I’m loving the extended stay of the Chelsea boot (check out Russell and Bromley, they have some fab ones).  The Dressing Room in St Albans have some gorgeous sheepskin lined baseball boots, and even Uggs are upping their games and making their boots less, well, Ugg-ly.  Alternatively, I would advise investing in a good brogue or loafer, if you’re not ready for boots yet.  Don’t skimp in shoe area ladies.  Cheap footwear is a false economy and in the wise words of India Knight, ‘always buy the best you can afford’.  Kate Kanzier have some fab coloured brogues, as do Kurt Geiger and Office.  Do not, i repeat not, go to Primark.  Save such a trip for high fashion shoes which you will fall apart as soon as they start to become dated anyway.

Cadogan Chelsea Boot – Russell & Bromley £195

Betana Brogue – £55 from www.katekanzier.com

Winter is on it’s way, and like a band of well healed squirrels, we need to be prepared girls.  That’s what I told my bank manager anyway.  Here are some of my best autumn buys that you shouldn’t be without in these trying mid season months.

Bargain! – Abby Boho Patchwork Square Scarf – £18 from Accessorize

Barter! – Cath Kidston Birds Shawl – £48 from www.cathkidston.co.uk

Oh the shame of it, Abercrome & Fitch has offered Mike Sorrentino money to stop wearing their clothes!

A statement from A&F confirmed “We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans. We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”

Ironically, one of A&F’s most popular shirts last summer was a “humor graphic tee” emblazoned with the word “Fitchuation” in an effort to capitalize on the show’s success.

How fitchy!

Mobile phone company Orange is going after the cool kids at Glastonbury with prototype t-shirts which charge handsets.

The charging system is based on ‘piezoelectric film,’ a technology commonly used in hi-fi speakers, which turns vibrations into electrical voltage, and is thin enough to be woven into a cotton shirt. The energy gathered from sound waves is stored in a reservoir battery, which can then be plugged into a mobile phone to charge it.

Whatever next?  Solar panel shoulder pads?

Quick! These fab Orla Kiely shoppers are back at Tesco, and are a stylish snip at £4 a pop.

These lovely pear print totes were originally out in Nov last year but sold out in a snap, so grab one whist you can.

The bags are a charity collaboration between Orla Kiely and Tesco to raise money for both Tesco’s chosen charity, CLIC Sargent (Caring for Children With Cancer) www.clicsargent.org.uk and Orla’s, The Royal College of Art, which funds bursaries for textile students www.rca.ac.uk

I drafted this blog at the weekend after snapping these fun foot candies, but waited to post them until i’d decided…… did I love them or hate them?

I considered maybe I liked them because I was seeing Cirque Du Soleil that night (which is AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME BTW), or maybe because I’m like an small child; attracted to bright colours and patterns.

But then again, maybe it was just because I was hungover and prone to wildcard fashion.   Thank god I was nowhere near a TX Maxx, or goodness only knows what I could have bought! Cue the weird gold lame dress that seemed like a good idea at the time *Shudder*.

On reflection and after seeing the costumes at Totem, I decided they were indeed cool, fun and remind me of Miu Mius, but at £110 are a fraction of the price.  Footwear to make your feet the main attraction!

Treat yourself to these big top feet treats at Schuh.co.uk…

Totem is showing at the Albert Hall until 17th of Feb. I would highly recommed it! Tickets are available online at http://www.cirquedusoleil.com

What do you think? Are these shoes fabulous or ridiculous?

Hopefully the worst of the winter is behind us and we can start looking forward to varying our wardrobes from knitwear, knitwear, knitwear, accessorised with Uggs.

Midseason is always a tricky time for fashion, especially in the UK where the weather often dupes you into wearing the wrong outfit.  Many a time, have I set off to work wrapped up like an Inuit, only to spend the day feeling clammy and flustered because actually it’s not that cold.  Or, on the flipside been over optimistic about the great British climate and ended up freezing!

Where as we can now look to the Macintosh, cardie and even the odd beautifully printed scarf to get us through spring, what do we wear on our feet???  Uggs are indeed Ugg-ly, but oh how the comfort makes up for their aesthetics.  Cue, the sheepskin lined pump from Pretty Ballerinas.  Cosy, cute and perfect with jeans or a dress.  They are even reduced from £119 to £75 at Jigsaw online!
