Orange unveils t-shirt that charges mobile phones for Glastonbury 2011

21Jun11

Mobile phone company Orange is going after the cool kids at Glastonbury with prototype t-shirts which charge handsets.

The charging system is based on ‘piezoelectric film,’ a technology commonly used in hi-fi speakers, which turns vibrations into electrical voltage, and is thin enough to be woven into a cotton shirt. The energy gathered from sound waves is stored in a reservoir battery, which can then be plugged into a mobile phone to charge it.

Whatever next?  Solar panel shoulder pads?

  1. Wow! That sounds great. They’ve finally come up with something to solve the battery life on my smart phone (other than making better batteries) :)
